electronic ignition

Trying to figure out what would be the best (and least expensive) electronic ignition to use on my 53 flat head. I'm sure that someone out there has gone through the process, any info that you might have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx

Why bother w/ electronic? At the RPM most flatheads turn, the stock ignition (w/ a 12V coil and heavier condenser, if using 12V) will work fine.

If you don't have the stock parts, you still can buy replacements fairly cheaply. If you still want electronic, Mallory makes a breakerless distributor that bolts on (MAL-3727501), but it costs over $300. A single-channel MSD Stacker system (P/N 7200) w/ a Blaster Coil will provide a good spark, but not before you spend about $150.

Anyway, good luck.

If you are a low budget do-it-yourselfer buy Bill Sinclairs book "Thunder Road Flathead" and learn how to modify a Chrysler electronic to fit the flathead ford V-8.

Chris;

That is exactly what I'm thinking of doing but when I tried to find something for a 53 F-250 there wasn't any part number listed. I haven't called them yet so maybe they just didn't list the part the way I searched.

Anyway thanks for the info.

Thumbs up electronic ignition

V8?; however on the flat six i suggest taking a 12v slant 6 distributor, install a Hudson distributor shaft (interchanges easily) in it and modify to slip into the Ford block. check the shaft length against the Ford distributor and the ends to see if modifications will be required. This eliminates purchasing points ever again, plus increases power, quicker starts and better gas mileage too!!
