New owner - question

Hi, new to the site, have an 05' SCAB 4x4 lariat. I LOVE my truck! Question is regarding the mileage between fillups. When I picked up the truck new, the computer said 420 miles till empty. After 5-6 fill-ups, I can only get the computer to show close to 380 miles till empty. I have filled topped off the tank and cannot duplicate the 420? Any thoughts?

its going by the mpg on your computer and it probably dropped a lot because of the way you drive. you can reset your mpg guage while cruising on the freeway but that will mess up your miliage estimates; you didnt really get 420 on that tank did you?

Hey, I'm new too. I have an 04 F-150 FX4 and mine was oppisite from yours. I used to get 11 miles to the gallon and after about the first 3000 miles or so I get about 12.5 to 13 no matter what I'm pulling. I've got a 35.7 gallon tank though so yours may be smaller. I love this truck but this thing is killing me at the pump. $62.00 on my last trip !!

The computer is showing between 14-15.5 mpg on average. I cannot get more than $50.00 in the truck so I must have the smaller tank. I got 403 on my first tankful. Oh well, if I need worry about gas milage, I'll take my wifes Honda.

You should not rely on the computer to give accurate readings. Do the math at the pump, and let us know. For those of you that are getting low mpg readings, you should ask your local dealerships to make sure you have the latest tunes. Many of the older 04s have inferior computer programs, and many have found that a reflash helps them by a few mpgs. Personally, I have a Superchips unit, and I get 16mpg. I just added an Extang tonneau, so hopefully the mileage will increase even further (havent had to fill up yet). I will post back if I find it helps any.
