Wink Flamers, Baiters& Trolls Read this before you reply

Before you get yourself involved in flames war, or a debait with a troll, and get yourself in hot water. read this, this will give you some insight about some of the types of people who enjoy stirring up things.

Mods if you don't find this thread proper then delete it, but this might help cut back on problems, IMO

I would say FTE has things under control. This is one of the best sites to come to. If you run into a situation you do not like, just turn it off....you have the power in hand.

That is a good article. We have a "Report Post" function ( ) that people can use to alert the moderators. Users can also use the "Ignore" function in the "User CP" (User Control Panel) to add a user to their ignore list which blocks out their posts. Back in the old days systems just had to suffer Trolls and other abusive users. Nowadays there are Federal laws that regulate trespass on systems which makes it much easier to deal with them.

Torque1st...great idea! I just made my first "ignore" for a non-Ford owner who's always chiming in on the "Ford versus Comp" forum. No need to get riled up while perusing my favorite web site, FTE.

This guy is the true definintion of a troll described by the link posted by f=2504by497 (great job, BTW).

I'd like to see a new "smiley" added, along the lines of the "FTE - 1st and Best" except the sign says "DON'T FEED - THE TROLLS!". I'd be using that one alot!!

Hey f=250...you mind if I post that link in the "Comp" and "2004-2005 F150" forums?? They could definitely use it there!

aaaahh things are hot enough in there as it is, and I e-mailed Tim the link already.... it should be a must read before you enter there at your own risk.....it really is a good forum when you use the ignore feature....

Great post and article. I copied it and posted it im my Yahoo Group, where we have a flame war gong on right now, over the use of crude and vulgar language in the chatroom I've hung out in for over 6 years. Let's see me get flamed for posting it. I've been doing a lot of "housecleaning" in the Group plus in the chatroom...using the IGNORE feature and putting people on iggy, who are tolerating and even encouraging foul language and usernames that I wouldn't repeat to a sailor. I've also banned one user and removed several others. Kinda like "vacation" here. Heh heh.... the war is on and I'm going to clean up my favorite room (on Yahoo, that is), or die trying. Thanks again for the article.

It's been my experience that if one WANTS to find a fight, there's usually one close at hand!

But it's also nice to know that FTE makes it possible to avoid such entanglements too!

Interesting post. I have been accused of trollery recently. I had a minor part in a major movie when I was 12, I found a site devoted to that film and went on, the people there refused to belive that I was who I said I was and one guy in particular got really nasty. So now they don't respond to my posts. Oh well, their loss, I guess. I could have told them a lot of intesting behind-the-scenes details. I guess I'll go lurk under a bridge somewhere! -TD

Yeah , there seems to be alot of experts that you can quickly tell do not know anything and are just provoking argument. It is also the case that they are either 13 years old or think that way because their minds didn't develop past then. I, like TIGER DAN was questioned on something by a Know - it -all that apparently didn't know anything about the subject. I decided it was alot easier to end that discussion than argue with an idiot whoms sole purpose is to make people unhappy. I like a difference of opinion and I would hate for everyone to agree to all, but common sense goes along way. Getting on a forum and telling people complete falsehoods just to make conversation is senseless. I really enjoy the ignorance in telling people law, medical, or other serious matters by a know-it-all, I wonder if they understand the ramifications involved. ANd no I am not making fun of 13 year olds, some are alot more suited to this world than the flamer/trolls out there. TIGER DAN -- Which movie were you in ?I didn't see that post.

I agree, if someone just won't budge, and thinks they are right, it just isn't worth the trouble and aggravation to carry on, so I'll just drop it and let it die. No need to get all bent out of shape over a discussion.

remember, trolls don't like big, gruff billy goats, or so the story goes..
I don't let 'em get to me, but then, never been involved in a trolling incident

Great link, f=2504by497!

f=2504by497,
Thanks for the link for a great site! We do seem to have a few "other brand lovers" that really love to try and stir the pot here on occasion. It makes you wonder how they would feel if we invaded their grounds bleeding Ford blue has been my position prior to reading the information in the "Troll" article. I now have a bit of a different outlook, and I also plan to place the link you provided over on another web site I have been a member of for over five years.
I enjoyed the insight from the link and I do intend to share it

John Russell
