Rear Shock location

I have mounted 2000 Explorer rear axle on 1950 frame.

Looking for feedback on shock mount location; I would prefer to point them forward of rear axle as per original truck shocks. would like to reserve room behind axle for gas tank location. I have pictures in my gallery of mock up shock mounts.

what think yee ?

Tip

I think they look almost identical to mine. I sure hope we're right.

Looks pretty much the same as what I did on my 48 with a Crown Vic rear that I used. So far the truck has only been driven around the block once in a while but everything seems to be fine so far.

That is the way mine look. Surely we all can't be wrong.

Shocking Mounts

Thanks for the encouraging words; I think I will stay with the mounts as they are, much more roon to mount gas tank later..

I put in a 69 mustang rear 9" and I used the original frame mounts on top and measured down to the rear end with normal weight on the vehicle I then measured to where I would mount the shock brackets on the rear and then ordered shocks for the that length at the midrange for that shock. Worked fine but will see about a better quality shock then the Monroes I put in. It does ride excellant. and handles great with the mustang II in the front and big wide tires front and rear. ed ke6bnl

shock mounting

Thanks Ed, the general concensus seems to be that it won't negatively affect the shock dampering by having them forward of the axle.
