95 Ranger Automatic Transmission Problems
My 4.0L V6 Ranger is having transmission problems. I took it to a transmission repair shop and they told me that this is a common problem with Rangers. I just wanted to know if anyone is having any problems with their trucks or if they know of anything that might be causing the problem, which by the way, is that it slips going into 2nd and 3rd gear. I have already changed out my transmission fluid and the filter and gasket. I have also checked for leaks and have found none.

95 Ranger Automatic Transmission Problems
Finally someone else with my problem!I have a 96 SuperCab that used to...and I think still does slip between 2nd and 3rd. The biggest reason it was slipping was due to a split flywheel...imaging using a socket on a stripped nut...same idea. This also generated computer codes relating to the engine speed not synced up to the tranny speed in 2nd and 3rd gears. This in turn lit up the MIL. After the new flywheel was installed the computer codes were reset and all was fine...until the MIL has gone back on again. I'm not possitive that the code is one of the same that was in there, but if I was to guess it is the same code. I highly doubt that in the 10 miles I have driven since the codes have been reset another fault has occured. The slip that I was experiencing before doesn't SEEM to still exist, but I'm sure the computer knows whats going on better than I do. Aside from the 2nd to 3rd slip it also takes forever for the tranny to engage reverse. With the flywheel replaced, it isn't AS bad as it was, but it still exists. I did read the other posts about tightening up the bands and clutches, BUT from what I gathered reading the Chiltons manual is this: the transmission on my truck (and I belive the 95 4.0L as well) is the 4R55E and is electronicly controlled and cannot be adjusted except for the kickdown. So basicly what I understand is that once it starts going, time for a teardown and rebuild...and after $550 in parts labor and towing for a toasted flywheel, I'm not to thrilled about this. Hopefully I read wrong, if anyone else has gone thru this problem I'd be interested on hearing their experience on it. Hope some of this has helped.

On my 94 ranger it does the same thing i was wondering if the tranies are the same from the 4.0 to a 3.0 and if it could be the same problem on my truck. It does the exact same thing that was described, (the socket on a striped nut thing).
Just wondering
