Will a 76 bed fit on a 79?

I have a 79 F150 Shortbed 4x4 that I'm redoing. My friend has a 76 F100 2WD shortbed that he said I could have the bed off of. I read something about ford changing the frame width in mid 77, is this true or can I use this bed?

Yes it will fit.Ford did make a slight change but that will not affect you swapping the beds.To be sure just breakout the tape and measure.

you will hate filling the fuel tanks, but it will fit. a little welding and the doors can be grafted back on.

It will fit just fine. The narrower framed trucks were the 3/4 tons I believe. Like whd507 said, it will be a pain in the butt filling the tanks, there should be no filler door on the tank and it takes forever to fill them up, the hole is right there on the side of the bed.

Just curious, why would it be any harder to fill up? I have a '79 w/ a 40Gal tank that takes about 6-8 minutes to fill... would it be longer than that, or is it something having to do with the pump auto shutoff, or something else?

Well, the angle of the tube that feeds the tank is like almost horizontal, so the gas flows down the tube very slowly, and sometimes it does make the pump shutoff alot and can be very annoying, but you will get used to it sooner or later.

I have a car that has that pumping problem, but if I angle the nozzle upside down like a 9 instead of a 6 it helps... ;-)
