Without a decent port job on your head you won't see the full benefit of that cam, intake or header.

This is a very strong cam for a streed machine. You will need high compression for sure. Make sure you have a good valve train, springs, keepers etc. With this lift you need at least 1.84 on the intake valves and maybe 1.94 intake and 1.60 on the exhaust valves. You might even want to go with some Rhodes lifters. They help on bottom and top end of the rpm range.

The first hop up I would do on a 240 would be a 300 crank and pistons.

The only difference is the stroke. Dollar for dollar you won't find a better way to increase performance than to add 25% more displacement with readily available stock parts.

All "go" parts for the 300 will also work on the 240 .
( intake, headers) The 240 is a good engine I have one and I like it - it seems to rev up quicker and pulls to 4000 rather then 3500 due to its shorter stroke.
The older car type 240's have a better compression ratio I think it is like 9.2 to 1 where as the truck is 8.2 and I have seen rplacment pistons that give as low as 7.2 to 1 !!!.
It is all in the gearing the 1974 truck that I have has the 240,c4 auto, and 3.70 to 1 gears .

ford put them into the full size galaxie .
i have not been able to find the older style pistons but then again I havent looked that hard .
deck the block and that should help with the compression.
