1960 F-100 steering conversion

I am in the process of doing a restoration on a '60 F-100. I want to keep the straight axle. But would like to add power steering. Does anyone know what type of steering box anf linkage that I can use for this conversion?

The Toyota 4x4 box is used often on 48-56 trucks, but I don't think I've seen a kit to use it on trucks made after 56. You might be able to modify it to fit a 60, but not sure. Sacramento Ford offers a power assist kit for 57-60 trucks which uses your existing steering box but I know nothing more about this kit. You might check with them.

According to pg 137 of the Mid-Fifty catalog, the Toyota box works with 48-52 and 57-60 IF you fab your own bracket or redrill your frame.

Wink 57-60 steering conversion

No Limit Engineering makes an off-the-shelf kit for this. $286.00 The hard part is finding the toyota gearbox in a junkyard. http://www.nolimit.net/Products/PowerSteer.htm

Almost forgot - the other kit that uses the existing steering box is inferior.

Thanks for the feedback,

Finding a box is not a problem, NAPA has a Reman box for less than $300. I just needed to know which one to use. Looks like I'll start this weekend

I just bought a Toyota steering box for $50 from a guy in Tacoma. I posted a wanted ad on the local 4x4 board and had 5 of them offered to me in less than 24 hours. $30-$50 price range, just picked the closest one.

Has anyone mated the Toyota box to the stock column and 3-speed shift mechanism?

That would take some engineering & machining to accomplish that feat, but it can be done using the right flex joint

The Toyota box comes from a 1979-1985 and it should be from a 4X4. CPP also offers a bushing and collar to use the stock column and mate to the Toyota box. You can check it out at http://www.classicperform.com/produc...ord/F100CS.htm

These kits/parts are designed for 1953-56 but may work for other years.

for ANY used parts:
www.car-parts.com
thats how I got mine, 80-84 Toyota 4x4 pickup It's a short box ~ 9.5" long and mounts with 2 bolts on each side of the sector shaft. You can get a bolt on or weld on installation kit from Mid Fifties including the correctly splined arm. They also offer the rebuilt box for ~ the same price as parts houses and you'll be sure you're getting the right one. Check em out on line, nice people.
