Drilling small holes in exhaust tip

I have a flowmaster 40 series muffler on my 93 ranger and its loud but I want it to be more aggressive. I heard you could drill small holes in your exhaust tip to make it louder, if this is true can someone explain how.

If anything, drilling holes near the tip is going to quiet the exhaust, not make it louder or more agressive. Try a side exit exhaust or some tubular headers if you want a more agressive sound.

Also, doing things like removing the air sliencer will give the engine a more agressive tone.

Add a megaphone tip. I put a pair of 3 1/2" stainless stell tips on my 2004 with a 40 series flowmaster single in /dual out muffler.

Or you can buy a REAL megaphone and duct-tape it to your exhaust tip. Thatll make it much louder! j/k

You could run the exhaust outlet inside the truck cab and that would make it very loud, and only you would have to listen to it. (keep the window cracked so you can breath)...

Put on a turn-down tip - that'll help some.

If you haven't already, try doing an intake modification. It helped mine out quite a bit. My boss can hear me a few blocks away and calls it a "distinctive rumble".

I don't know if I'd really want to hear a 4-cylinder from a few blocks away. Just think of the racket you'd have to put up with when it got close.

my flowmaster is pretty quiet too, but thats because it has 5 cats before it. The only thing that drilling holes in a muffler does is make you fail smog. And i have an intake too and it doesn't make the exaust louder, it makes noise of it's own.

If I saw a truck with holes drilled in the exhaust tip I'd probably leave a note on they're windshield telling them how dumm they are.
