need some advice on removing the door panel to access the speakers on the rear doors of an 04 F150 FX4 SuperCrew. They seem a little tight and I am afraid of breaking them, I dont know the best place to pry at.

thanks in advance guys.

Does anyone know if on the audiophile set up you have 5 x 7 components in the front? Or is it just a straight 5 x 7?

Does the Stealthbox affect the rear seat at all? Is the rear seat raised up all or does it return to its factory location?

The local stereo shop said they can build a box that can hold two 10s behind the rear seat in the supercrew and get approx. 1.4 cu/ft. Anybody else have this done? I didn't think there was enough room!

xtreme1, is there any way you can get a part number of the stealthbox that you installed. I just spent 15 minutes arguing with the local stereo shop. They called the local JL rep and they said there is no JL stealth box that have not made one yet to fit the new body. So any help you could give would be appreciated. Or if you could just give me the number of the dealer that you worked with. thanks,

Has anyone else been able to find the part number for this?

This is an email I got from JL yesterday:

Yes, we have some new Stealthbox models coming available for the 04 F150's. The SuperCrew version is available now, model number SB-F-SPRCRW. The SuperCab version will be available by the end of next month. Both of these new enclosures fit under the driver's side rear seat and house a single 10W3V2 in a downfiring ported configuration. Suggested retail price is $599.95. Good luck with your new F150, and thanks for your interest in Stealthbox!

xtreme1, thanks for the info.

What are everyone's opinion on speakers? Is it better to go with components, or just a straight coaxial speakers?

daorte: Most coax speakers cram a mid-woofer, tweeter, and a crossover onto one speaker frame (be it 5 1/4", 5x7", whatever.) This lack of space forces a manufacturer to use lesser quality materials to get it all to fit in a stock door pod. If you've got the room for a separate crossover box (usually 3" to 5" square or rectangular, about 1" deep) and a place to mount the tweeter (the front door in every '04-up F150 has a place for a tweeter), the components will sound better. Usually components are pricier and may require more power to sound their best. All IMO, hope it helps.

I agree with mjm. componets sound better and are crossed over much better but too pricey.

I have a set of brand new JL Audio 6 1/2 component speakers--bought them for my old truck but never had the time to install. I know my 04F150 is 5X7 but is there room to fix a 6.5" speaker? I figured I could make my own adapter but don't know if there is room to fit this speakers. seems like most people use 5 1/4 if they don't use the factory size.

I just added a couple of more pics of the stealthbox out the truck. I decided to mount my amps behind the rear seat so i took it apart again....... nosfrog- i dont think you will fit a 6" in the door but i maybe wrong. I had to trim the plastic around my 5x7 plates to get them to fit.pic of it is in my gallery also.

I have oversized 6.5 CDTs in my front doors and standard 6.5s in the rear. The rears fit fine, I made an adapter with 1/4" mdf.. the front had a problem. I couldn't get them in the door panel, they were too wide so I had to cut away some to get it fit, but you cant see it because it is under the grill! Even with the extra work, I'm glad I went 6.5, mid bass is awesome!
