Exclamation South American 1979 Ford Excursion!?!?!?!

OK, yall probably think I'm alittle crazy, but i was watching a movie the other day and it was in the rain forest in south america. The Military police were driving in a 79 Ford Excursion type thing. It was not a bronco, i'm sure of that. It had 4 doors (the rear door looked like Crew cab rear doors but with the cutout for the wheel wells. The top looked welded on, and it had bronco-like side windows. From the looks of it, it wasnt much larger than a regular cab shortbed wheelbase, but it was shorter than a longbed wheelbase. I do not remember if it had 8-lug axles or 5-bolt axles. It was painted Dr. pepper green in the movie. Was this a real vehicle that was only sold in other countries or was this some sort of hack job just for the movie?

I wonder if it was a Ford Centurion; the 4 door Bronco. A 79, though. It has to be custom built. I think the Centurion (marked by a C instead of an F on the front fenders) was only available from early 80's to mid 90's. Anyone else know?

I've seen pics of those Centurions before but only 80's style bodies. I'd love to get one . . . or if I had a lot of spare time build one. I suppose you could probably just get a crewcab and add a Bronco back, kind of like SuperBronco.

I havent seen any in a few years.. but their used to be two different centurion converions driving around my area... they were 80-86 models.. I always thought they were way cool..

But Ive never seen this done to the 73-79 trucks... that is sweet...
The only thing the trucks are missing is the race track trim... that would make them look super... ohhh yeah ... and a lift.. and bigger tires... and so on and so on ... lol...

The more I look at the pics .. the more I say.. "another project" Then reality slaps me "wife" and says "finish what you have started".... lol

I must say though, I got lucky.. most of the guys I know that are married, have wives that drain the blood out of thier wallets... not mine.. she says.. "hey buy that those are cool.. "

I used to have a friend who drove a big red and white Centurion. When she got the 30-years-old-and-bored-with-marriage itch, she left the husband but kept the Centurion.

At first I thought Centurions were stretched Broncos (and indeed, they could be, as AirSmitty's links demonstrate), but then I realized I had seen them as F150, F250 and even F350's. I learned they are crew cabs with a trimmed frame and Bronco rear grafted on.

I guess Ford finally took a look at this particular niche market (since Suburbans have been selling like hotcakes since 1936) and made the Excursion. But before that, Centurions really were cool.

Fords from another mother

I know Ford has marketed other vehicles overseas that were pretty cool. I spent a year living in Australia, and there were a couple Fords there I wish they'd bring here. They have the Super Duty, but that is stricly a work truck (they aren't set up for bohemoths down there like they are here), but they've also got the Falcon GT (Something like a Taurus with a 351 Windsor in it) and what looks like a new school Ranchero, also equipped with V6 or V8 power. Perhaps it's something like that?
