new heads are on but I have some questions

1989 Bronco II 2.9L 2WD
I just finished replacing the heads on my BII and I am having some problems.
I set the timming at 10 deg BTDC but the truck is bogging down while driving at 60 or 65 mph. Also it hesitates in 1st gear unless you stomp down on the gas then I jumps up like a jack rabbit on viagra. There is a smell of gas like it is running rich. What do you guys suggest?

The 2nd problem is the temp guage does not work now. It worked before I replaced the heads. I grounded the wire to the sending unit and it went all the way to hot. Does this mean that the gauge is ok and the sending unit is bad?

thanks
allen

Did you pull the spout out when you timed it?

Pull the vacuum line off the fuel pressure regulator after it been running a little and check for gas, gas = bad FPR. Check to make sure you didn't pinch a wire when you put the head back on, the O2 wire runs near the passengers heads, rear. Also pulling the codes would be a good idea.

I always forget which way it pegs the needle but as long as it's full cold when the wire is open then I would replace the sendor.

Yes I did pull the SPOUT connector out before timming engine. Could it be that I still need to tweek the timming a little above or below the 10 deg BTDC.
