351m???

I was just recently given a running motor with the casting numbers D7TE-A2B. I posted this info in another forum and was told that I could probably get more help here with my questions. What I have is a 1977 F-100 with a Very tired 302 mated to a C6 tranny. Will this new motor match up with my tranny?? Will the motor mounts work?? Do I need to change the motor mount towers??? It's missing the left exhaust manifold are they readily available?? Thanks for taking the time to help me out. Ron

It's not even close to a bolt up!! Bolt pattern on back of motor is differant! I don't think the Motor mounts will work!!

The motor you were given is either a 351M or 400. They both use the same block so it's impossible to tell which it is without looking at the casting code on the crankshaft. Regardless, it will not bolt up to the C6 in your truck and it would require different motor mounts. The exhaust manifold is readily available from many sources.

77 pickups did come from the factory with 351M/400 motors so it shouldn't be difficult to find the parts you need including the transmission but if you're looking to put a bigger displacement engine in your truck with the minimum number of new parts you'd be better off finding a 351W engine. It would bolt up to your existing trans and use the same motor mounts.

Thanks for the info. The motor was given to me, thats the only reason I have it. I thought it was a Clevland motor. O well I'll start looking for a Winsor. I just rebuilt the one in my 79 E-150. It's a great motor. So so on gas, but what can you expect from an old engineered motor. Just for giggles and grins what tranny hooks up to that motor??

The 351M/400 motor will mate to a C6, but it will have the 'Big Block' bolt pattern. The 351W will also mate to a C6 with the 'small block' bolt pattern. The C6 trannys are the same internally, just the case is different.

Thanks Danlee, I think I will have to put the truck on the back burner for a while. I have a 69 Skylark GS Stage 1 I'm in the middle of restoring and that is eating all my fun money. The motor in my truck runs its just tired. Thanks everyone for all there help. Ron
