88 ranger losing rpm's

i have an '88, 2.3l, 4cyl automatic. it has just over 100,000 mi. i just bought it and i know the previous owner never did any major maintenance, just routine and for the most part it runs good. Lately though its been losing rpm's and subsequently speed. it happens primarily on the freeway but sometimes at lower speeds also. i'll be cruisin along just fine when it starts to lug and then almost acts as if it is not getting fuel. i thought the pump maybe, but its got duel tanks and both of them act the same way. i could probably get the injectors pressure cleaned, but i dont want to just throw money into it without some further suggestions due to a limited budget. any suggestions are much appreciated. thanks.

Have you checked the fuel filter? Sounds like maybe the original owner did not change it. Also pull the plugs and see how they look. Maybe a good tuneup will fix the problem.
