C9 is a new one for me. I've seen up to C8 and the D blocks after that. Is there a date code on the block? G.

I have a poor memory. But I seem to recall that number being used on 385-series blocks (429/460). I have an interchange manual at home that would spell it out, but here I am at work.

The C9 number I have are for the 385 series but they end with VE-A and VY-A. Maybe the 429/420 merc blocks had the ME-A castings...just a guess. Maybe check the 385 forum. G.

Ah better. I have a C8ME listed for a 428 68-70, 330 and 361/391. but no -A just the C8ME. No date for the 330 and 391 either. I'd have to imagine it could be a 390/360 also. What are some of the other markings on the block? Anything on the back like a sandscatch "C or A"? Does the crank saddle webbing have the std two or HD three webbing? G.

What's the bore dimension? What are you trying to determine? Casting numbers had several applications.

Oh and the sandscratch "A" might be upsidedown and a couple of inches long in size. G.

i was told it was a 352 but based on the parts and the big bore bigger than my 390 i doubt it is a 352 also based on the casting numbers

Good luck and hope it checks out as a 428. Sounds like it to me. G.
