Real towing capacity of a 2001 Ranger 4.0L with tow package?
I just bought a 2001 Ranger supercab 4.0L, automatic with tow package. The dealer tells me that towing a 2500 lbs car and a 1700 lbs trailer is no problem for this truck. However, everyone else is saying no way! Everyone I talk to at the local trailer companies say that they think a Ranger will have a hard time with this, and will overheat on long trips. What is your experiance in towing with a 4.0L Ranger with automatic?
Thanks,
Paul

I have a 2001 ranger supercab 4.0l XLT 5spd auto, and it's rated at 5600lbs. You'll have no trouble towing what your looking to tow.
I trailer horses, and the max the trailer with horses reach is 4500lbs. I've not had any trouble with it yet.
