97 5 speed conversion to 6 speed???????

i am sure it has been asked before but i want to do it if i can. especially now that diesel is so expensive. if anyone has done it please help. thanks

If you are doing this for fuel economy , it won't make a difference , they are both overdrive in the top gear . You could go with a Gear Vendors or simular overdrive unit and have a double overdrive in fifth gear or split all the gears for a ten speed .

likewise top gear is the same. you can do it but you have to get a transfer case of a super duty also. the adapeter between the trans and t case are totally differnt and you would have to build a new center support and make some other mods. i was wanting to do it but the best price i found on a 6 speed was about $2100 and then i was going to see if a adapter could be built for my tcase. superduty t case was another $1800. like black said if your looking for save fuel gear vendors helps but the payoff would take a very very long time. i did the math on it a couple years back when i put it on my 94.5 f450 and it was going to take like 150k miles to pay off but what a diffence it makes towin

I wonder how much different the numbers would look at todays fuel prices ?
