Replacing drivers side door window

Replacing drivers side door window
So some heartless soul broke the drivers side window on my '78 F-150 last night. Instead of going to a repair shop my dad recommends that I go to a salvage yard and pull a window out of another F-150. So my question is: How do I get the new window out of the door? And how would I get it back into my door?

Window
Hmmmm.....I pulled a set of windows out of one of my trucks before I hauled it to the chipper. I don't remember exactly how I did it, but it wasn't too bad. You will have to pull of the door panel so that you can see what you're doing, to get it off the track. You might have to remove the sail panel part of the window first too. That involves taking the 3 screws out from the jam part of the door and I think there's one behind the door panel. If you can get that out first, Taking the main window out is a breeze.
Best of luck to you.
Best of luck to you.

Pretty much just gut the door in regards to panels, window cranks, door handles(inside) and what-ever else is in the way. The glass should fit from 67-79 without a problem. Will depend a bit on window cranks or power windows, etc. Try and find one from same/similar year with similar options is best. The best way to figure out how the door comes apart is obviously to practice on the donor unit first. The work on yours.

All,
Let's get to the specifics.
The vent window changed in 77? I think. The only difference to my knowledge is that it had a little locking button. Big Whoop! Find a 73-79. You will have to pull the entire metal frame with the vent window. No big deal though. There are three phillip head screws in the upper door frame. Remove the window and regulator. Loosen the rear track and front track. Front track is part of the vent window. It will come out as one assembly and you can reinstall it as one also. The first time is always the worst. You will certainly understand the door window assembly by the time you finish your project.
Enjoy it, most truck owners never get to change the vent window. I've done at least four.
Good luck,

Very easy job door pad and handle window crank come off you don't have to take out the vent window or the main window regulator. There is a great picture of the door breakdown on NPD's (National parts depot) website, download the 48 to 96 cat to see a version of your window. just remember take your time you are playing with glass.

All,
As our door panels get older, you can expect to break the plastic tabs that hold the metal clips. Not to worry,... Find/buy some plexi-glass, cut it into small squares. Cut the door panel evenly so you can glue the plexi-glass on in place of the broken tab. I use marine GOOP and let it set for about 24 hours. It works,
