Piece of 6 or 8 inch diameter PVC pipe, about 3-4 feet long (or in this application: tall)
I plastic bucket that will fit over the PVC pipe.
However you choose, afix the pipe so that it will stand, securely upright.
you can strap it to a tree, a 4X4 sunk in the ground, whatever.
Mount it so that it is approx 1 inch above a flat surface. The ground will work, but a piece of plywood 2ft x 2ft is better.
So, now you have a piece of pipe standing upright about an inch above a piece of plywood.
Fill the pipe with corn (or whatever you choose to feed 'em)
Some corn will spill out the crack and then the pipe will fill up. As the deer eat the corn, additional corn will spill out the 1 inch gap. Put the bucket over the top to keep out rain. Or, buy a PVC cap and slide it on.
Very simple.
Very cheap.
Very effective.
No maintenance other than filling as needed.
Lasts forever.
You can spray paint the pipe so it belnds in with the surroundings.
I have one in my back yard that has been there about 6 years.

" A real hunter learns how to hunt deer ,not have deer come to him" That was the answer I got from a customer in Oregon who hunts elk and makes top drawer jerky.

I was going to say, no disrespect intended, that sure does not seem very sporting?? Here in Oregon, I think there are laws against using food to lure deer to you, one actually has to roam in the woods and find them..

You can "bait" here up until 30 days before hunting season. But we hunt near a cornfield, so the baiting takes care of itself.

The only reason I would ever feed the deer is to attract them back onto a piece of land that they'd left for whatever reason. (logging, 4wheelers, dogs, etc.) I'd want the deer to have a reason to start crossing that property again. This is assuming I ever get to buy a chunk of planet big enough to hunt on. A deer lease would be nice if I could afford one.

That PVC feeder sounds like the cheapest way to go. Bet it would work in smaller scale for dogs or cats too.

TWolf is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
If you watch the "Outdoor channel", you will see alot of hunting from blinds using feeders. People will often ask whats the difference if you place a treestand by an apple tree or a main deer trail. They are all attractantents. With all the deer scents and no smell things that are on the market today, is it still called "Fair chase"? To me, hunting is not only a sport, but a way to get out and enjoy the country. Since I am limited to what I can do, I hunt using a ATV. Is that fair? To some people, no. In my own opinion, the places that use food plots that help deer grow larger antlers, should not be allowed in the record books. It's like a woman have her boobs inlarged. They are still fake. Same as the deer antlers. Growth hormones add to something, makes it fake. With bigreave, he may not have the time to spend hunting. And this is one way for him to bring meat home. All of this, brings a whole new meaning to what hunting has turned into.

i agree with twolf , i do work 6 days a week and how can a grown deer be allowed to be in the rcord books if you monitor his diet , and control his roam. i hunt a feeder becuase other wise i might go all season without even seeing a buck. Around here there are deer but in order to lease a spot with enough room to acyulay stock a deer is a lot of money

Deer

Using food to lure deer close to a blind?.......that's not hunting....it's an ambush.
