Skid plate

Anyone found a decent after market skid plate? I have an '04 4x4 Screw Lariat. The factory skid plate doesn't do much. The last time I took it to the beach I spent about 45 minutes cleaning sand out of the engine compartment.

I've had desert trucks in the past and all have had custom skidplates. IMO that's the way to go. Just cut a piece of Al. to fit what you need. Also, in my experience, there isn't a skidplate made that keeps out sand...that's not really what they are for.

I'm working on some custom parts, one of which is a skid plate. It's not going to keep out sand, but it will protect the front diff. The factory ones are a joke. The one I'm working on, is diamond plate. I haven't settled on a thickness, but could do what ever. Probably around 3/16 or 1/4". I'm also torn between stainless and powder coat. If these work out, I may offer them for sale. If there is enough interest.

PS: The first part that I'm makeing is a real nerf/step bar. Strong enough to offer real protection.
