Question FPR Screen Cleaned - Where's the ball....?

Let me preface this question - my truck is running great, idle is a lot smoother, and all SEEMS well but...

Last night I changed my fuel filter and decided to clean my orifice vent screen. I removed the FPR from the filter housing with the two screws. I had rags under to catch anything that fell so I was being real careful. I got the screen out and was it clogged - I could not see light thru it so I cleaned it all up. The screen was spearated from the 'white plastic' piece so I pulled the plastic piece out also. It has o-rings and looked fairly clean. This is where I am concerned - there was no ball bearing - it either was left in the FPR and did not fall/come out or it is not there. Anyway, I put everything back together, new fuel filter, clean screen, some Diesel Kleen in the bowl, and fired it up. It idles like a top.

My question for the group is - if the ball bearing is missing on the Orifice Vent Kit what will happen and is it likely that it was inside the FPR all along?

Thanks for the help.

Jim

I don't think there is supposed to be a ball bearing in the poppet valve. I think people add a bb under the spring to increase their fuel pressure.

What is an FPR? Is this screen something that I should be checking for clogs?

So the ball bearing is shown as part of the orifice vent kit. When I cleaned my screen I did not see it but it may have been in the FPR assembly. If the bearing fell out during the cleaning, would I know it by how my truck runs?

Unless you put this kit on your truck or some one else you know has, you DO NOT have a shim in your FPR. Tese trucks did not come off the line with this feature.

Sorry.

Byrd,

Check out the post with the pic of the Orifice Vent Kit. There is a ball bearing included in the vent.

The Valve Pressure Regulator is where the fuel pressure shim mod is done by the user - a BB in here will get you more pressure.

My post is about the ball bearing that is included with the Orifice Vent Kit which is in a totally different location than where the BB mod goes.

I hope this helps to clear up my original post.

For all that has posted, thanks. I have ran now for about five days and ball bearing or not, the truck does idle A LOT better with the screen cleaned.

what were the symptoms that led you to clean the screen? Is this a regular maintenance thing?
