Oil leaks on 97 f-250 diesel

I just noticed some oil spots on the driveway. I noticed some build up on the turbo pipe. Most oil was on the oil pan/nearby parts. The local shop said that the main seal was going bad. This is bad. An thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks, Rob

"Turbo Pipe"........ are you talking about your turbo outlet(downpipe) or your exhaust manifold to turbo pipes(up pipes).

NO!!! Your rear main seal is still ok. Do a search on oil leak at turbo pedastal.

could be your galley plugs at the back of the heads theres a big plug right at the back of the head they revised the oring in the pulgs old ones had two rings new ones have one big oring there like $15 a piece if thats whats leaking
if you got a little inspection mirror you can see the back of the head. theres a 1/2 round part of the head and there at the end of there. the ford part # on thoose plugs are #6026
a flex head type 1/2 rachet makes getting thoose things out and back in much easier

Turbo pipe

It is the "up" pipe, with the rubber gasket, looks like oil but only exhaust goes through that right? Also I went to the car wash to clean the underside and maybe locate the problem. I was told not to wash the motor from the top, should I or no?

Sir,

Check plug on the back side of your head.
Just had the same problem.
Somewhat common according to the tech I spoke too.
Problem with it is, that it is hard to get to.
I finally understand something.

Still the dumbest guy on the board but I'll try harder>

I agree that it is probably the galley plugs. I had a 1997 F350 that was leaking and I was finding it all over the motor. 3 of my 4 plugs were leaking and I intended to fix them but I decided to trade it in instead. Good thing I did to cuz I just saw it sitting behind the service center at the dealership about 2 weeks ago when I was getting my oil changed. I was really glad I didn't have to pay to repair it but it sure made me miss the old beast. I'm not so sure I did the right thing by trading it for a Ranger???? Oh well....hind site is 20/20

Thanks Saabo

Thanks, I will check it out and I would like to point out that my ignorance trumps yours. Also, I spoke with another local "mechanic" that thought that the oil pan might have just loosened. We quickly tightened it up, then I went to the car wash. Fingers crossed on that one.

Ranger?

Level2 Thanks for the info but a RANGER? Kidding, I wish I had one some days at the parking lot. Never give up on the PSD.

If anyone wants to know, I tightened the oil pan bolts that I could reach and no more leaks so far, knock on wood.
