Duramax, Cummins or PSD - Who is the most powerful?

ive driven the 6.0 and its very quick and very responsive....drives and behaves like a gasser...whether thats good or bad i dunno but it has very nice driveability for everyday commuting...its 2000rpm peak torque is perfect for the tranny and would be great for any diesel tranny ...thats why it drives so nice.... the 7.3 felt like a diesel motor a whole lot more and i liked the sound better lol..as for who is most "powerful"? forget stock numbers they're useless all 3 motors can make lots more power ..but..the internals of the cummins and the block itself is very thick and very heavy and can handle more stress...u cant deny that...but for the majority of us we will never get to 1000hp where that becomes an issue ...so technically and "potentially" the cummins is tougher but who cares...one thing im surprised about is the duramax aluminum heads which i would have sworn would be huuuge trouble but havent prooved to be so so far...impressed

I worked at a compost site awhile back and we had a compost screen that had an I-4 Deutsch diesel. The Deutsch is air cooled with aluminum heads(four of them). One spring we were running the thing and the fan belt broke, engine over heated, locked up, and caught on fire. After we gone it freed up we replaced the turbo and a bunch of wires and hoses we found that the heads were just fine. No warping or melting. We thought that the head gaskets were going to be bad so we replaced one and saw that it looked good so we didn't replace the other three.

air cooled diesels are the brute of reliable. almost 100% best you can get. vehicles are not practicle for them because of all of the heat and not enough air. but my neighbor had an air cooled deutz diesel in it, and it was great as long as you give it a yearly dose of fuel injector cleaner.

Isuzu may have improved their sealing capabilities between the alm head and the cast block by leaving the sleeves taller then the block itself. This way it can cushion the head gasket tighter. Improved head bolts too maybe. In addition, they may have strengthened the coolant ports in the head units where there are excessive flex which can cause major headgasket leak. Many new ways to do this cure this!!! Yes what I've mentioned worked on many of the race engines I've built. cast block w/ alm heads !!!

Are you sure the duramax as sleeves? One thing about aluminum is that it does expand at about twice the rate per deg. *C vs. Iron. So while the engine temp. is going up the alum. heads will grow more than the steel head bolts. The head grows in all directions, including upward. But if the head bolts restrict the upward expanition the head will expand downward toward the block making a tighter seal.
