79 E350 AWD w/unknown gear ratios but they're steep. Last mileage check was 10.5...and then I put on the MSD. I think it might have actually dropped. I'm hoping that advancing the cam will help.
My Chevy van 454/700R4 got around 14...and that thing would cruise at 90mph on the just primarys.
This ford sure pulls the boat up the ramp though.

Well, I havent gotten the motor and trans in the truck yet...darn it....But I am trying. The problem is the headers.....I got some off of a truck, but it was a later model truck.....The headers wont clear the aftermarket engine mounts. Unfortunatly, thats the only way to put a 460 into a 53 F-250. I just need to get out the hammer and make some "adjustments". Then they'll work.....I think/hope. I'm still hoping that when it all happens, I'll have a set up that consists of: 460/C-6 combo with a holley 750 vac secondary, full length headers and 2 1/2" exhaust, 30" tall tires, and a 3:50 rear end, all put into a 53 F-250, and gets around 12-14 MPG towing my 67 mustang on a trailer behind it. Here's hoping!

I have done this kind of swap, we made a front mount to the original front crossmember, and bolt on mounts at the bellhousing, like original. just for the heck of it, we also used the rear trans crossmember from the C-6. if I had it to over again, I'd go with an "elephant ear" style front mount, and the two side mounts on the transmission creating a 4-point cradle.

Florida gear ratio
Hey Tim,
Just my $.02 ! As a Central Florida resident I think you might be wise to consider the "big picture". It'll probably take you a few days to clear the mountains on your way south and then it's FLAT.....FLAT.....FLAT...and unless you're planning on dragging you might be wise to consider a lowly 3.00 for everyday driving.
I run a 64 swb F100, 71 Lincoln 460, C-6, Edlebrock 650 with p/s,p/b,and a/c and I average between 12 and 14 mpg with a 3.00. This gives you highway cruising speed without having to turn up a bunch of revs. Trust me, the 460 can light up whenever you want.....pavement stays hot and I would make sure your cooling system was in primo shape.
BTW...it's a good idea to weld on hurricane tiedown hooks on the under-carriage.....bring your own generator and blue tarps.....LOL

Actually, I AM planning on drag racing the truck once I get to Florida. Thats why I was going with the 3:50 gears in the rearend. Pretty much a good all around streetable rearend while still good for a great 60 ft time as well. I know the 460 will have the torque to light em up on demand. Thats part of the reason for it's choice. Now, on to a more pressing problem. Your name says all I need to know actually. I need to find a set of headers to fit this thing....The set I got will need some...er...modifications to fit.
We are planning on going across the top of the USA, and not down south. The cooling system should be fine as the 460 isnt modified yet. Key word "yet". The whole big block scene is new to me as I have always made big block power with small blocks and I am a wiz with small blocks. I know the big blocks are different, but how different I'm not sure yet. It's just the darn headers now....grrrr. I want to find a set for under $200.....But I put my wish in one hand and a pile of ummm dung in the other and see which one fills up first....LOL Peace
