Can I get the default Performance Tune loaded if I bought a used Predator?

I am looking at buying someone's used Predator. Would I be able to get the original Performance Tune to match my car? Is the Performance Tune the same for all vehicles in the group (98-04 Mustang/03-04 Marauder, part no. U7146)? Or should I just get a custom tune? What are my options here?

As long as your vehicle is in the group for the Predator you buy you can simply reset all parameters in the Diablo Tune and install it. Then you have the orginal tune. You can then modify the performance tune and install right over the original Diablo Tune to do whatever you want, spark advance, tire size, axle ratio, fuel, etc.

MAKE SURE THE PERSON YOU BUY IT FROM HAS RE-INSTALLED THE ORIGINAL BACKUP TUNE IN THEIR VEHICLE OTHERWISE THE PREDATOR WILL NOT WORK WITH YOURS!!!

Is there just one original tune for each group? Or do you get a semi-custom one when you order a Predator?

The Predator contains all the tunes in it for its group.

I'm sorry. You lost me there. Do you mean there's more than one tune loaded on the Predator? Or is there a single one that applies to all the vehicles in the group?

There's more than one tune, or rather it knows how to modify more than one stock tune family.

Seems I don't understand what goes on when you first plug it in. I thought it reads the factory tune from your car and stores it. Then loads the default Predator tune that is semi-custom to the group.

Does it read your factory tune, tweak it based on some predetermined specs for your car, then upload it to the EEC? What if I load a custom tune onto the Predator?

It reads the code, saves a copy of the original, then it takes another copy and modifies it and loads it back to the vehicle. It will modify any of the codes its been programmed to recognize. If you load a custom tune into a Predator (via the serial port) it will only program exactly what you loaded into the Predator.
