I'm not sure, I won't claim to be an expert (a genious perhaps , but not an expert), but according to my (possibly flawed) logic, (assuming) the hybrid's primary power plant is a internal combustion engine it should convert like any other, with little or no modifications.
It's a good question, but I've got to limit my response to the Escape Hybrid. I can tell you that its engine will not run on E85. Only those Ford engines specifically designed for ethanol blends above 10% will burn it properly.

No!
Any engine with an electric carb can run E85 with little or no modification, nearly all MPFI engines will run it w/o mods.
the "specifically designed", are just minor accessories.
Also, the problem with E85 engines is less fuel economy. That is caused by the fuel, not the engine (the engine is identical to it's gas counterpart anyway) ethanol has less energy than gas in the fuel.
