Help - stripped filter bolts in C6!

What a freakin mess changing the fluid in my C6 on my '66F100. Guess I won't complain now because I have one bolt on the filter assembly that has a rounded head and even trying to tap it out didn't work. So I gave up and decided to leave it in, so I retightened the rest of them. Now I know why one of them was laying in the tranny pan - the threads in the tranny block are stripped.

So, what do I do? Take a chance a put it back together and drive it? Or, do I need to put in a replacement C6??? D@mn my luck

Thanks,
dagger

you dont need to put in the replacement right away. try it out, if it goes bad then replace. i am still doing a tranny service because when i removed the filter i noticed there was one bolt completely missing and one tranny bolt was missing. after losing a whole day searching and finally ending up at the junk yard i am ready to put it back together. another thing is that one bolt is longer than the rest and maybe you need the longer bolt. for my 89 c-6 the longer bolt goes in the far back towards the modulator. lastly, maybe with vise grips or a stripped bolt remover should get it out because they should not be very tight

this bolt is at the back but away from the modulator, but I may try to find a longer bolt to see if it works. I already drilled the stuck/rounded bolt, then the tip of the extractor broke off in it. I then used vise grips and that just chewed up the bolt head.

thanks for the suggestions!

if you didn't get the bolt out you could try welding a nut on it like a 3/8 on low power with a wire welder then just turn the new nut. and if you have a stripped hole you could do one of two things heli coil it, or tap it to the next size bolt.
