fuel mileage

i got a 239 flat head in my 49f1. do they always use alot of gas? i tuned it up and it runs like a clock.

My neighbor swears his 239 got about 10 mpg when his truck was new.

thanks, i guess thats about what i get. must use alot trying to feed 8 cylinders thru a 1 barrell carb

I get 15-16 mpg with mine - have gotten as high as 19-20 on the highway. Also if you look down thru the carb from the top you'll see 2 bbls - one of the Holley model 94 variants. Only the 6 cyl used a one bbl carb.

Fuel Mileage

I haven't checked in a while, but I think mine is around 15. I'll look at it soon and respond again. I have a 51, 8 cylinder, 3 speed on column, 3.93 rear end (I think). The gearing might make a pretty big difference. Come to think of it, the tires might too. Mine are 15s and if I originally had 16s then my odometer is off. Hummmmm, I'll have to look into this some more.....

See nothing is as obvious as it seems.

your right, i had to craw up in there with it to look down its throat, it is a 2 barrell.

I checked my odometer in a rough way by driving the same route in another car that I had driven in the truck a few days ago. I think the mileage was very very close, so it appears I really do get about 15 mpg or so.
