Excessive Oil Consumption, No Smoke!

it has a napa gold filter on it which is a wix (good paper filter) I tend to like to run motorcraft filters on my fords. running a synthetic oil in my truck is going to do nothing but increase my oil consumption i will not do it until the consumption issue is stopped it's expensive enough trying to feed it conventional oil at $3.50 a qt let alone a good synthetic at over $9 a qt.

If your going through it that fast, I would just buy some Accel brand motor oil. Its still manufactured by WPP and they do a good job at producing the Supertech oil offered at Walmart. The Accel is listed at $2.67 a qt. That's 10w-30, 10w-40. If the consumption slows dramatically, then switch to any brand you prefer, but till then I would stick with a cheaper brand.

yeah I have been buy catrol gtx from napa cuz it's $3.49 a qt right now but always looking for cheaper options. I am hoping to get my wifes windstar running right so I can garage the truck and pull the valve covers off of it. I figure i'll just do the valve seals and hope it slows down. I pulled the PCV off last night and changed it to the motorcraft one, my cheap one was clean inside which i found interesting due to the oil consupmtion.

I thought I was the only one with a oil drinking 460...........
I go through two quarts every few hundred miles.........I use the cheap wal-mart oil. Keep a 5 quart jug in the back........

I've got a '94 with the 300 six. When I got it, the engine was covered with oil, and it dripped allover everything.
I pulled the PCV valve, and had no vacuum. The hose between the manifold and the valve was clogged solid.
I soaked the valve in some gasoline (I know, explosive... no smoking around this) and squirted PB blaster into the hose after I removed it from the truck, and then snaked a wire through the hose. I eventually got it cleaned out, and the gas dissolved the build-up in the valve.
Now, there is nothing leaking anywhere. I have not replaced any gaskets, yet, and the oil usage has gone to almost nothing.
Good luck with your 460. You'll find the problem.

Do you have anything of positive info that can relate to something OTHER than AMSOIL??
If it was directly related to NOT using AMSOIL, then prove the members of FTE otherwise. Some of the folks here have 300's, 302's, 351's, 460's with 100k, 200k, 300k miles on oil OTHER than AMSOIL, so I doubt his problem is directly related to what brand oil he or she is using.
Did you read the entire thread or just jump in for fun? I'm not buying $10 quart oil, especially since it isn't API certified. Guess I'll just stay stuck in the stone age.

This thread is for folks who work on their own trucks and learn from others.
We all watched TV and we all seen Jiffy lube commercials.
I offer up my experience and you offered up yours.
