6 inch lift and backspace rim question

On a 6inch suspension lift (PROCOMP), what configuration will have the tires sticking out of the fender the most?

18 x 9 rim with 5 inch backspace and 35inch tires
18 x 9 rim with 4 1/2 inch backspace and 35 inch tires

The less backspace you have, the more the tire/wheel sticks out the fender.

I found out that the MT Classic II in a 17x9 has 5.25" backspacing. That's the wheel I was gonna get, Not now!! Now I am looking at the ProComp 1059. It has 4.625" in a 17x9. So that's 5/8" more out. Doesn't seem like much, but every little bit helps. Also haven't seen anyone else in this area with those wheels. I have sold the 1069 and 1079 (which are close to the MT classic II) to several of my customers, so there's some of those around here.

Is this on a lift? What I understand from the installer is that 5.25 backspace will not fit on a 6 inch suspension. It has to be 5 inches and below.

So on a 6 inch lift the tires will stick out 1/2 more with this rim:

18 x 9 rim with 4 1/2 inch backspace and 35 inch tires

On any lift, stock to a 12" lift. The backspacing is always as stated. The less backspace, the more it sticks out.

Here is a stupid question?

Why can't I put the stock wheels on a 6 inch lift? (18 x 7.5/ 6inch backspace)

The installation shop says you have to change the backspace because the wheel can not fit.

You can run the stock wheels w/ some of the lifts...I think fabtech and procomp allow for it...not sure about others.

I think I have 5" backspace on mine w/ 6" lift...on the pics in my gallery you can see how much the tires stick out.

But, why can you run some rims one some lifts?

Does it have to do with the tires hitting or rubbing?

Bansheer: So a 4 1/2 backspace would have brought the tires in a 1/2 inch?

All the 6" lifts (skyjacker, procomp,&fabtech)use different steering knuckles that the stock wheels rub on.

Hoff, I agreed. I am going with the PROCOM 6 inch lift.

I have two wheels that I am going to choose from by Monday for a next week install:

American Eagle 18 x 9 Model 178 with backspace 5"
Helo Maxx 18 x 9 Model 6 with backspace 4 1/2"

I will be installing Nitto Grapplers 325 65 18.

I know the tires will stick out some. But I want to pick the rim that will have less tire sticking out the fenders.

Maybe someone can help. Thanks

BAHSHEE: Your steering knuckle is differant using FABTECH. PROCOMP advertises a closer ratio of the front wheels than other brand lifts.

So does anybody know if the centerline crossfire wheel would work with a 6 inch lifts, since it is also a 6inch backspacing wheel made specifically for the F150. Wanted to buy this with some 33s and daystar to start then upgrade to the 6inch with 35s later on.

Banshee rider,Its not the tires that rub its the rim.The wrong backspace will set the rim upagainst the steering knuckle not allowing it to turn.

blkFRD:

I have the 325/65R18 Nitto TG's on the Eagle series 178 18x9 but just the 3" BL and 2.5 Leveling kit. The tires stick out even with the stock nerf bars.

Check out my gallary!
