What all could cause a single cylinder misfire on the 4.0?

Hey Guys?

I have a 96 4.0 with 70K on. It recently started to misfire under load. The check engine light is telling me the #6 cylinder is misfiring. I changed the plugs and wires about 8K ago and it never misfired until a couple of weeks ago.I want to check if there might be a loose conection on one of the plug wires, but i'm not sure which cylinder is the sixth.

Let me know if any of you guys know what might be causing this. The only things I can think of are the loose plug wire or a clogged injector.

Thanks

I put autolite plugs in it and bosch wires. I don't think its a fouled plug but its possible. Anyways, do you know how the cylinders are numbered.

Thanks

1-4-2-5-3-6. Have you tried switching the plug and wire to see if the miss moves? I also answered to your other post about the 4.0 intake leak that seems to be common to the 4.0. Just an FYI, a DIS ignition system should have double platinum plugs due to the positive/negitive firing.

it will certainly be one of the back cylinders, just not certain which one of the back 2. my guess would be on the pass side though.

A Hanes/Chilton manual for your truck would be a very wise investment.

From page 1-2 in a Hanes manual:

Engine cylinder numbering 3.0 and 4.0L V-6
------
3|6
2|5
1|4
Fan/front

Coil pack numbering 3.0 and 4.0L V-6 with distributorless ignition.
-------
3-4
2-6
1-5
Front

Thanks for using FTE!
