Balance to 28oz or 50oz.
I am building a 331 for my earily Bronco and I have a choice to balance it to 50oz. or 28oz. I would like to balance the motor to 28oz. but is it worth buying a new flywheel and balancer since I have a good stock 50oz harm balancer and flywheel I got off of a 86 F150?

you can have a machine shop mill the 50 oz to a 28 oz. take the clutch and pressure plate and have the whole unit balanced together. idid this with my mustang and it is perfectly smooth past 6000 rpm. the balancer will have to be new. they are cheap if you get a stock replacement. (mine was $60)

For the price of machine work you might as well just get new ones. Get a fluid damper it's not much more than a new stock harmonic balancer, lot's of em on ebay. If you want make a choice, it shouldn't really matter either way. With 28 oz you can use any 351 balancer/flywheel or an older 302, with 50 oz you are limited to newer 302's only.

The 347's that we have balanced have balanced easier with the 28 oz set up. Seems like the 50 oz has to remove a lot of material. I tried to do a customer a favor and use his 50 oz, way to much work. Flywheel is easy to do. It's getting the damper in balance that's much harder and time ($$$) consuming.
