Need Help With Extra Power!

Bigger alternators??? I've never heard of putting bigger alternators on your truck...I would think that would just fry you battery. I have heard of getting an extra battery and running it to operate your lights. I think that is what you mean. Most people do this if they have a big system in their ride.

Actually, all an extra battery will do is help you power your lights and stuff longer, with the ignition off. Depending how you wire it, parallel or series, you can get more volts and cranking amps and cca and all that mumbo jumbo. Once your ignition is running, your batter does very little. I'm an avid stereo person, and putting a larger alternator in your truck is a MUST to crank out more amps while the ignition is running. I believe the stocker is rated at 135 amps, if im not mistaken.
Your options are:
Search on ebay, for 'f150 alternator' or 'f-150 alternator'. also look into an alternator for the 4.0 explorer or 3.8 mustang. They should work just as well, but you may want to double check due to belt fitment.
Also, you can find an electrical place locally to re-wind the coil on your alternator, but that is kind of ghetto.
You can get a bad *** alternator, which will run a little over 500 bucks. There is one brand out there that is really popular, but the name is just on the tip of my toungue.
I say your best bet is to go on ebay, and pick one up for between 200-200 bucks. they normally put out about 200amps, which should be more than enough unless you are tyring to power your house....

Also, when going on ebay, find a nice alternator and ask the seller if he has one for the 4.2 f-150. That's what I did a few years back and the guy said that the 4.0 explorer alternator should fit, and if you want to take his word for it then BADA BING! you got yourself an alternator. If it doesnt fit then just go custom....ever watch 'pimp my ride'?
just a joke...but could very well be taken seriously...... a bracket here, a bracket there and BAM!, alternator fits, belt is snug, lights are a-shinin'
