I am just curious, I have seen a couple of trucks that were lowerd and I just shake my head and go HUH? I am not picking on you Dennis or trying to start a mess I am just curious to why someone would lower thier truck. The ones I have seen pretty much made them usless as a truck. I do understand making your vechicle your own with mods and every bird in the world has an opinion I just wanted to know if it was just for looks or is there a functional reason. Thanks.

MOst people that lower their trucks dont plan on using it as a truck.
Its just like soccer mom buying a super crew truck and putting a hard tonnou (spelling???) on it. It ruins its "truck" purpose.
Hes making it a street truck. a powerful muscle car, except... its a truck.
Trucks already have powerful engines.. but lower them and add some more, and you have a race car. I see the point in lowering a truck and making it a street machine, but I would never do it to mine.

WEB, I've had both, and I gotta say that lowering, SOMETIMES will ruin the truck. As far as a 2/5, not a whole lot of change except for the handling characteristics. something like a 5/8 would go through shocks, tires, etc almost weekly! I dont beleive that I will lower mine due to the fact that I may still need to use it to haul stuff around, but definetly 20 or better w/ lo profiles for me.

WEB: I,m lowering the truck to make it handle better. I've got a 02 F150 that i lowered already and added 20 in. wheels and Falken tires combined with performance upgrades. This hasn't hurt its towing or loading cap. I also have 5 other F150s including a stock height 4x2 a stock height 4x4, a raised 4x4, a short box 4x2 and a Lightning so i,m able to pick the truck to suit the job. The lowered 02 and the Lightning are by far the most fun to drive. The others are just trucks. Thanks for repling Dennis

I find myself considering lowering my STX. I don't really like lowerd trucks, and one of the best things about my truck is the ground clearance, and the fact I can look down into most other trucks.
So why lower it? Not handling. It corners faster than any truck I have ever driven. Not my wife's Eldo, but not like a truck.
But, I have bad knees, and getting up into my cab overextends my left knee. Since I am 6'2'' I have never had this problem with a non four wheel drive truck. Caught me by surprise.
A step is not an option as climbing up a step is worse than the hyperextension.
So unless I can lower my seat about three inches, I may have to lower the truck.

Thanks for the input guys. The couple I have seen around here were slamed all the way down on the tires and they had to avoid/stop at every little bump in the road. I know the kids like to shove their cars down until the tires rub the wheel wells I could never see the reason to make a car look good to but make it impracticle to drive. When I was a kid we would put shackles and air shocks on our cars to stick the rear end up in the air so what the heck do I know But we thought we were cool.
Good luck with your mods.
