I was putting on a new belt on my 1990 f150 with a 300 6cyl. When I went to put on my new belt I have lost my pattern I wrote down and now I cannot go to work because I cannot figure out how to put the belt back on. Please Help

 

OK... Try to do this with words... I'm going to type this out in a clockwise pattern, starting with the Alternator.

Alternator goes UNDER the tensioner to the PS pump. It'll then go down to the AC compressor. Now it comes up over the water pump (back side of the belt) down to the Harmonic Balancer. Go from the Harmonic Balancer back around the smog pump, and back to the Alternator.

 

This shows the routing on the serpentine belt. Just scroll down til you get to the right belt. Figure 12 show a pretty good picture of it.

this may be stupid, but check on under your hood, or on the metal above the fan. There might be a diagram

Kinda funny - After wasting about 20 mins, calling myself an idiot for thinking I could remember the pattern, then looking in the Haynes manual (in vain) for the diagram, I come in here to this trusty web site to find your 'stupid' suggestion. I rushed back out into the garage and hot damn - I probably put my hand on that diagram about 8 times tonight farting around out there ....

I disagree - I've been a member of about 8 different sites associated with various cars and motorcycles and none do this type of filtering (but I have to admit, someone's paying for the other sites)...I know nobody's holding a gun to my head to go to this site - and I DO appreciate it - and believe it or not I have tried to look on the sponsors' websites first when shopping for parts...The only real gripe I have is that even if someone puts in a link to a site that has parts that the sponsors don't have, then it gets 'squashed' , too - however I understand it's impractical to filter based on what can be found and not found at other sites so most references to other sites get 'squashed'...

I think a lot of the links getting squashed has to do with the length of the link.
A lot of e-bay, Advanced and Autozone links are so long that all the link does not come thru. Seems like I read this in one of the other forum groups on here. I guess we just have to find another way of getting across this type info. to anyone else on here.
