Diameter and length of tips definitly make a difference in sound. I went from short 3" DIA x 10" long tips to 3.5" DIA x 24" tips. when I did this I cut the back 15" off my 2.5" pipes. This way the sound definitly "baffled" more through the tips giving it a deeper more mellow tone. Any muffler shop I have ever been to will tell you Diameter, length and shape make a difference in sound.
I have a 99 White 4.6L with true duels. I had a local exhaust shop cut the stock pipes before the "y" and then strait pipe it all the way.No Muffler(They call it the blue light special). Its been known as the devil on steroids ever since. Thats where the White Noise name comes from.I love it. Amazing power throughout the rev range.(A mpg loss for sure). But the beauty of being able to make anyone take a look at my truck anytime I want them to.
talking about exhaust is there an after market cat set up for 97 4.6 f150 ?mine cat sound like a can bolts ratling around .check prices for OEM big dollers!!!
has anybody put glasspacks on a newer model truck??? jus wonderin. my dad has a 77 F150 302 with dual glasspacks and no pipe after the glasspacks, it sounds awesome
So what about this Cat thing? I'm gonna look into this for my 97 4.6. Will I have to do something to the computer, or do I splice the O2 sensor wires to add a new set to the other side?
They are MIL eliminators thru ebay, they solder in your wires between your 02 sensor, for obdII, you can eliminate your cats and not get any codes, they sell for around 10.00 a set of 2
