You guessed right. I recommend the Edelbrock Performer RPM.

Ok, with approx. 10:1 compression, Keith Craft Stage 2 Edelbrock heads, Crane 349521 cam, long tube headers and mufflers, Performer RPM, on a .030" overbore 390, you'd be making 513hp @ 6500rpm, and 487ft-lbs @ 4500rpm. The torque at 2000rpm is 398 ft-lbs, so you really wouldn't be lacking down low either. The Performer RPM is rated up to 6500rpm, so I think it'd be fine on this engine.

Are the KC Stg 2 heads the ones priced @ 2295.00??? also, are they the same heads( less the modifacations) that I mentioned above?? I've a hunch they are but want to make sure.

IF they are, damn thats a lot of work done to a a pair of heads. makes me weak at the knees thinkin' about it. a lot of $$$ too!!!!!!

Nope, they're the ones that are priced $2995. The $2295 is for stage 2 porting.

WOW!!!! 3k for a set of heads!!!! holy bajesus!!! I'll stick w/ the stock Edelbrocks I saw in summit for the time being cause I'm not that diehard.....yet....does that mean that the heads cost the $2995 and to ad the porting is an additional $2300??? That's worth more than my 93' I'm currently driving.

Anyway, basicly if I were to stay away from the real expensive parts for now I'd be well under 500 lb. ft. of torque....and that'd translate into either the TKO500 or TKO600 and if either is chosen there's no problems of underrated trannys and failing parts???? If that all makes sents.

I believe that price is Heads, porting, valves, and springs. Ready to run.

Stage II is his mid level port job. It outflows a set of Tunnelport heads on intakeby a small margin, and kills them on exhaust.

"Well if I had money, I tell ya what I'd do!"

Ok, the same thing as before with stock edelbrocks, makes 469hp @ 6000rpm, and 474ft-lbs @ 4500rpm. You actually pick up a little low end power, up to 401ft-lbs @ 2000rpm. This is due to the smaller stock valve size.

What's the factory compression ratio for a 390 w/410 pistons, looking through the catalog and foud new pistons with a 9.5:1 ratio. wondering if thats real good or if I can do better.

410 Cr

1970custom, back in 66-67 when the 410 was around they had 10.5:1 compression. That was with standard 390 heads. Carl....o&o>........

If your thinking about heads look into the Shelby aluminum heads. Around $2100. The stage 2 heads from KC are kickin though. Still the beast buy are the Edelbrocks at $1200 for stock heads with 2 size combustion chambers to choose from. The Blue thunder heads are out and priced between the Edel's and the Shelby's. $1800 seems to be the average price. Ask KC about them.

What about the later years 70'-76'??? didn't the c.r drop in these years because of federal emissions standards???

I'm sure the engine is newer than 66'-67'?? Didn't they put the 410 pistons into the 390's??? I'm sure I read that somewhere in this site.

Yes they did. The standard 1.680" compression height piston was used to lower compression on truck 390's. This was also the standard 410 piston, and works well in them. That's why it is easy to build a 410, since the only thing you need is a 360 / 390 block, a 428 crank and the 390 truck pistons. I'm surprised more people arent building 410's.
