Newbie ?'s about gear ratios and limited slip

Could someone point me to where I can get info. on gear ratios and limited slip? My husband and I are looking at a 2004 SCrew 4X4 with the 5.4. The one we're interested in includes the 3.55 ratio and the trailer tow package. What would the advantages be to having the limited slip or different gear ratio? How does the gear ratio affect your rpms while on the highway? Please forgive my newbie questions.

The lower your gear ratio the more rpm's you will turn on the highway. For example 3.73 will run at a higher rpm that 3.55 and with 3.73 you will be able to tow a little more weight. As far a limited slip's are concerned this device help's transfer power to both you back tire's instead of just one.A limited is deifnetly a plus.

Thanks for the info. Does that mean that the 3.55 would get better gas mileage on the highway since it would be running at lower rpms than the 3.73 (not towing anything)?

Theorhetically, the 3.55 should get better gas mileage. The engine is running slower. But reading all the gas milage threads that have gone on, there isn't much of a difference. Maybe 1 MPG.
