Post Opinions on painting block / heads

Well, since I'm search impaired like everyone else...I'm sure this has been discussed at length already.

The pistons are on their way back in so I've got to begin thinking about how and when I'm going to paint the engine.

It's a 351W, painted the light Ford blue originally. I'm trying to figure out if it is easier to paint the short block or wait until I have the heads on the engine? This raises the question of wether or not to paint the heads, and if so, should I paint them the same color or different? The blue paint is rated to 600F, the "high temp" stuff to 1200F. The high temp paint is only available in basic colors, however. I'd like to leave them looking natural if possible, but I don't want anything to look rusty in 6mos.

Also, is there a better paint than rattle can paint? I've painted a few cars so I've got all the supplies, but presume the paint for engines is much thicker and I'd need a new nozzle or perhaps a pressure pot sprayer.

Duplicolor has more colors to choose from to paint your engine, might wanna check out their site.

eastwood company has all kinds of high temp coatings, so if you looking for a hight temp clear for the natural look or anything else for that matter, I am sure they have what you want. later

Black makes it really hard to spot leaks though, that is the nice thing about the light ford blue and newer ford gray. I'd like to go clear on the heads but they probably get too hot for the 600F paint?

I ONLY buy seymour engine coating. They have a really nice dark Ford blue paint that has worked great on my motor. I painted the entire engine ford blue and it still looks great. I tried dupilcolor with bad results it was a different shade of blue for each paint can. Had to use paint thinner and a scraper to get that crap of. So yes paint everything, including the heads, otherwise it wil be ulgy and rusty. 3 coats is usually perfect.

So just as opinion, do you paint the heads separately or when they are on the block?
