Transmission & carburetor got wet

Hay! this is my first post. I have a 74' f-100(Baby Blue). last week when it was raining my frind and i (screen name stokdd) went out to have some fun. well we got split up and he went home. I went behind the airport in Jenks and hit a creek(couldnt see and creek was 4' out of its banks). so the truck stallid and it didnt start agine for two days. but know i have bigger problems like the clutch catchis about 1" off the floor bord, it runs funney, and the caborator has begun to leak gas. why do you think that is?

Water = Rust.

Carburetors leak because the sealing or certain parts dry out.
Let me guess where.
Right at the front at the accelerator pump.

Welcome to FTE...

Did this all start after the 'bath'?

The clutch is worn and needs adjusted or replaced. There is a threaded portion of the clutch linkage by the tranny - move the adjusting nut to lengthen out the rod until you have about !" of free movement of the pedal before you feel the resistance of the clutch. If the nut is already at the end of the rod, you will need a new clutch soon.

It could be running bad from the 'bath'. Look under the dist cap for signs of moisture - corrosion/rust/wet. Dry it good and see if that helps. Also check the plug wire ends for moisture/corrosion and replace as needed.

Most likely the carb needs taken apart and gaskets replaced (that's a perfect time to clean and rebuild it). Could try to retighten the leaking area, if that doesn't work, plan to rebuild the carb.

I'm a good friend of Kyle's (kbikego). When he stalled the water level was rising and was flowing faster, so he had to get his truck out any way possible. He had to crank the engine over while in gear for most of the way out - that's why his clutch is acting funny. Eventually a newer Ford diesel was able to pull him out the rest of the way.

We cleaned out and dried under the distributor cap and air filter. The carburetor leaks not only out of the throttle pump, but in three or four other places. He needs a new carb

His truck, for now, is immobile.
