Volare clip with airbags?

Hello friends,
A while back I read an article here that someone posted saying that air bags couldnt be installed on a volare front end. Is this so, and are there any options out there? I tried to do a search on the subject, but the "search" button seems to be hiding. Any help would be appreciated. I was planning on putting bags on my truck.

Good news?

Please?.....

Keep on Truckin!

Sorry man,

But from my understanding and according to all the people I know with volare clips (which is a lot) you can not I repeat can not air bag. You can always whack the frame and go with a GM clip or read John's site about how to remove a volare clip and replace it with a Mustang II.

I also have a volare clip and knew ahead of time I could not air bag, sorry you did not man.

I hope whatever you decide to do it all turns out to your liking. Because in the end thats all that matters.

Good Luck

Can't? I just stopped by a friends shop who is a retired machinist, and one of the most respected car builders around here. He is in the middle of installing a power rack on the beam axle in his 39 Ford coupe. This is the third rod he has done this to. I read stuff all the time that says " you can't put a rack on a beam axle and make it work", and yet he does it and it works. None of these cars are trailer queens. ----I'll bet someone will bag a Volare, maybe allready have. Too much work for my skills or dollars, I'll stick with my stock Volare stuff.

Well Joe Gaddy,

When someone else figures it out I would like to know. Until then its stock volare time, and put the air bag thing out of my mind. I have too many other upgrades to worry about.lol

Maybe I shouldn't have used the word can't, I guess I should have said there is no known way to do it as of yet. I guess that is the PC way I should have answered.lol

We've poo-pooed this idea a bunch of times. I wouldn't say it couldn't be done, but I haven't seen it. You would have to re-invent the suspension so bad I don't know why you would even start with a Volare. You would have to replace the upper A frame with a stationary mount. You really couldn't eliminate the torsion bar, it eliminates fore and aft movement of the lower control arm. If you kept the T-bars, you will then have two springs including the air bag. It just doesn't seem like a sound plan. There, I've poo-pooed it once again. Now somebody get busy and prove me wrong.

Gosh mkabwe, the last thing I want is polilitcal correctness. Wasn't aimin' my comments toward you, I was just thinking about all the "can'ts" that are being done. Of course you and 'fenders are right about it being easier and smarter to install somethiong else. Joe

Joe Gaddy,

I was joking with you. I know we are here to inform and learn. Didn't you see the lol (laugh out loud) I typed that to show you I was joking. But I do agree with you about the word can't. You use it and someone always proves you wrong. Will someone please prove me wrong about air bags on a volare.lol I would love it.

55forder,
If I were you I would just get the drop spindles and drop that baby real nice and low (as low as you could without bottoming out and scraping the ground) and call it a day. That’s what I'm gonna do. I love a nice low stance, because I believe in profiling (ya know when you lean on you ride with that check it out look on your face).

55forder, His input would be most interesting indeed. I spent 25 year as a Brake and F/E tech and can't even imagine how this could be done and still be feasable. I know a ******* that tried this but the wheel would not clear after the bag/shock was in place. Please post your mechanics opinion. Thanks.
