Newbie has a 53 F100 frame question...

I have a 53 F100 that could use a frame, and have a chance to get a 56 frame. I'm thinkin there probably the same. Sorry if this is an old question, but i'm new to this forum. Thanks.........

Hi

The rear springs are longer on a 56, not sure about the front. Axle is in the same place springs are just longer.

Thanks guys, I have the high dollar (to me) monos on the rear, so that is really good info to consider. Never even thought of that. Thanks....... By the way if I use the Mustang 2 frontend, can I get away with the manual rack? (390 motor)

Sure you can. But why would you want to do that? If you keep the large stock steering wheel I guess it would turn easy enough but if you change to one of the smaller wheels that are offered today you may wish you had power steering.

Anyway do it what ever way you want to it's yours.

My 56 has a 351C and MII manual sterring rack. My steering wheel is 19" dia. Steering is fine around town and has an excellent feel on the highway. It is still a handful is a tight parking lot. My wife could not drive this truck.
I plan to add power steering. You would probably be happier with power steering also, since the 390 block is heavier.
On the bright side, I have probably added a couple of inches to my biceps in the last year.
