77 Ranger

My gf has this 77 Ranger that she just bought from utah and i want to do some mods to the motor, by nature i'm a sbf guy.(roush blue oval headed 408 cobra mustang) I just recently started learning about bbf because of this truck now i figured if anyone would know this forum would, i came accrossed some cobra jet heads with some huge valves and aluminum rockers and major port work. I'm thinking cfm all the way, but she has a 400bb will these heads work on this motor. Also what kind of motor is this anyways is it clevland or modified or 460 destroked or is it it's own monstor? Any help would be apreciated.

The 400 engine is a modified, series 335 engine. No, the 385 series (429/460) heads will not fit the 400. -Ed

heads?

355 version i guess i've never herd of that is there aftermarket heads available for it, or should i just pull it and build a new one? I have a rotating assembly for a 460 based motor it's like a 532 or something like that with h-beam rods and a trickflow crank and ross pistons. I was hoping that it would all work together but i'll prolly just pull it. Any thoughts, or advice?

That's 335 series engine not 355. Go to the forums section again and scroll down to the engine section, you will see many different types of Ford engine forums. Check out the 335 series forum you should be able to find lots of info about your engine in there. Yes, there are aftermarket head's available for that engine (elelbrock makes a set of alum. and there is some aussie heads available also, but if it's power and torque your looking for I would recommend finding a good 460 block for your rotating assembly. From the sounds of the part's listed you would have one strong power plant (most likely not an every day driver!!). You can find lots of info on this engine in the 385 series engine forum. Do some searches and looking around in these engine forums, lots of good knowledge and helpful people here. Have fun!! -Ed
