broken axel

I have and 88 bronco II, 4wd that's pretty much stock and just broke my second front right axel shaft in 6 months. This one went out the exact same way as the first. The two "fingers" that hold the u joint just snapped off the end of axel, both times under very light loads. Is the design a peice of crap or is there something i should know. I got the last replacement out a junkyard does anyone know of stronger after market axels?
Thanks
