suicide door kit

There is actually a kit out there for a relatively good price. I can't exactly remember who has it right now but I will find out for you and let you know. I had my sister's boyfriend do the reseach for me earlier in my unibody project so he should still have the info. I should be able to get it with in the next couple of weeks.

It would be great of you have the knowhow. I looked into doing this myself but decided not to as it would involve boxing the rear of the cab jamb and reimforcing the door itself. These doors are heavy. The hinges would hold them up easy enough but the cab and door supports would have to be beefy.

My only advantage is a good friend of mine has been doing custom car work for a lot of years and I have a good feel for welding, plus I rounded up a practice cab and some scrap doors. I am old enough to know better and young enough not to care.

If you have good hinge pockets on the donor cab, you can utilitze these by swapping the pasenger side to the driver side and recessing them into the striker jamb. But you will have to reinforce the jambe face and support the rear of the pockets as well. There is room to do it I just didn't want to mess with it. You can reinforce the door itself by copying the oem set up. I haven't looked real hard at getting the door mounts out of a door but it should be feasable to scab the hinge mounts to the backside of the door.

If you are serious about doing this, take some pics along the way and show us what you did.

I agree swapping the hinge pockets and boxing them in is the way to go. The hinge recess in the doors may interfer with the window but this can be over come with some careful planning.

You could angle the glass channel toward the front into the void left by removing the hinge mounts in the front and removing the division bar and vent window. This would allow you to run 1 pc glass that noone else has at the moment.
