'05 F150 vs. F250

I don't really NEED an F250, but I love their looks, maybe even more than the F150. I also don't NEED a diesel, but love the sound/power/better mileage/etc. I'll use the truck mainly as a daily driver. I do some hauling of firewood, brush, mulch, etc. - but don't currently need to tow. I realize that towing is the #1 reason for getting a diesel.

My question regards the ride & comfort. The new F150 has received wide acclaim for its ride/handling - but I've also heard A LOT of complaints about the seats. Price aside, has anyone compared the overall comfort of these two trucks. I'm a big guy - 6'4", 225 lbs.

I sold my '99 F150 to buy a BMW 540i. The 6 speed manual is fun, but it only took me 3 months to long for a truck again, so I'll be selling the car. It'll be nice to climb UP into a vehicle rather than stoop down. I didn't want to post this in the SuperDuty forum, because I figure that most people who use their trucks as daily drivers without a lot of towing have 1/2 tons - and I would like input from those who have compared the two. Thanks.

If you are getting a truck that you drive a lot they you do NEED a diesel. All suvs and truck should be diesels imo.

I am also 6'4" 225, don't you just hate squatting on the ground to get into a car!!! What is worse is crawling out of a pit to get out. I feel like my hind end is stuck in a trash drum with just my arms and legs poking out. I hate cars... Plus there is that twisting to get the knee and foot out from under the steering wheel and pedals. Yeeowch! I don't even like the little Ranger/Explorers for the same knee business but they aren't too bad to get in and out of otherwise. I prefer my 78!

I just realized I forgot to mention an important point. The main reason I didn't consider a new F150 this spring when I sold mine is the bed size. I hated the "suicide" doors on my SCAB and getting trapped when opening the rear doors when parked. I have 3 kids, so need a usable back seat. I was hoping the '05 would copy the Titan's Scab doors that open all the way, but they didn't. I wouldn't mind a SCREW, except I won't tolerate that short of a bed. It was hard enough getting loads of dirt/mulch with my 6 1/2' bed - so won't go down to a 5 1/2' bed --which is all that's offered on the SCREW.

So, to get the back doors and a 6 1/2' bed, I'm either choosing between the F250, or wait until the '06 model and hope the F150 has changed.

i was in the same situation your in. i had a 2002 f 150 that was an excellent truck, but i thought i wanted a f 250 diesel. the f 250 is a good truck, it rides good and gets good fuel economy, but insurance is high, maintanance is more expensive and since i don't tow anything i don't need it, which is why i traded it last friday for 2005 ranger edge 4x4 x cab loaded due in 6-8 weeks.

That would be ideal for me, if they did. Anyone else hear this - I'm certainly willing to wait, even to the '06 model, if I knew it would be offered, but I hate to wait almost a year only to find out it's not true.

Insurance is higher for a SD over an F-150?
Or higher for a SD with a PSD vs. a gasser?

I'm getting a new truck soon and am leaning toward the SD instead of the F150 as well. I don't need the diesel but that doesn't mean I don't have to have it!

I also like the looks of the SD over the F150 as well. And, I want an 8' bed, extended cab, and leather (heated) seats, which is not doable in the F150.

i had a 2003 f-250 scab xlt 6.0 turbo, it rides better then the 2004 f-150 screw lariat that i have now. i loved the desiel until they reprogrammed it. i did get 16 in town and 22 on hywy and lots of power, then poof, they recalibrated the computer and everything was gone. milage want to 12-16, and towing was about 7 mpg. and only half the power it originialy came with. not for me, when the feul filters and a oil change costs you $2oo.00 every 3000 miles

I swear sometimes insurance companies use a Ouija board to set the rates. When perusing state farm's website and plugging in various vehicles for insurance. The Mustangs were the highest to insure for obvious reasons. Rangers (4x4) were almost as much as Mustangs which shocked me. A 04 Heritage 2WD and 4WD were only $5.00 per 6 months apart with the 4WD being cheaper. It ranked a "5" on 1-5 for safety. The 2WD ranked a "4". The Ranger was a "2" and the Mustang was a "1" or "2" depending on regular, GT, Mach I, Cobra, etc.

This all being for a 35 year old male driver, no tickets and no accidents in over 5 years.

I'm 35 too and have Snake Farm. You never can tell about your rates with them. I've gotten different rates from two different agents in the same town My 01 Bullitt Mustang was initially cheaper than my 95 F150, but the Mustang has gone up more in the past couple of years. When I bought the 04 F350 it ran just a little more than than the 95 F150. I fully expect both of them to go up here in the next year. It's almost like you get a cheaper rate on a brand new one and when they get a couple years old they go up. The rate I got on the F350 is almost exactly the same as the rate they quoted 3 years ago on the same truck...but everything I have insured with them has gone up quite a bit in the last 3 years.

What does all this mean? I have no idea. One interesting thing I found getting quotes from them one time, an 03 Corvette was cheaper than a Cobra. Of course that doesn't mean you would get the same results at a different agency

I have an '02 S'crew, because I needed something light enough to pull behind my motor home. If that were not the case, I would still have my '01 F250 Crew Cab w/PSD. The routine maint. is higher and right now, deisel is $.020 higher that gasoline, "go figure", but I sure did like the F250 vs the F150. I used it to pull a 33' 5th Wheel, but it was great as a daily driver!

I have both, a 03' F350 Crew cab Lariat with the 6.0 powerstroke and a 04' Supercrew Lariat. The supercrew is a quieter, smoother, and an overall more refined truck. In fact the superduty kind of feels like driving a tank after I have driven the half ton for a few days. When it comes to capability and power the F350 is far superior. The seats are more comfortable in the superduty which really suprised but the supercrew has a much nicer interior. If I could only have one of the trucks it would be the F350. On the other hand since we bought the F150 I have driven it about 90% of the time. IMO you can't make a wrong choice.
