Talking Just installed my MAC intake!!!

Hey all,

Just installed my MAC intake, am I stoked!! I love the sound of it when i get on the gas and open it up. I didn't think i'd notice that much of a difference, but it actually freed up acceleration all throughout. I've already burned close to 1/8th of a tank, on less than 15 miles!!! I'm looking forward to the MPG increase, though, once I get over the sound and back into 'economy mode' (read: senior citizen driving style)

At first I was using the instructions for installation, but I found it to go much smoother if i just looked at it and then, BAM, ripped out the stocker and slapped on the MAC. Those instructions were more of a hinderance than anything.

My Flowmaster original 40 comes in on Friday, probably going to get it put in next wednesday!!!!

After that it's a diablo chip, but I might have to wait until after Christmas, unless I start ballin' out of control at work... Still have other financial obligations, you know?!

As if this post wasn't long enough....what do you guys think about the Diablo chip? Stage2 or Stage3? Do you think those extra features are worth the extra $100??

I'm not sure about the chip, seeing I don't have one.. But sounds like your truck is coming along nice engine wise!

You have a 4.2 so you can only get a Stage 2 anyways. I have that exact setup. I have a Diablo Stage 2 Chip, a MAC CAI, and a 40 series flowmaster dumped. Very nice setup for a good basic power trip.

4.10's (hopefully) are next

true,

why is it that the 4.2 can only run the stage 2? to my understanding doesnt the stage 3 just add an extra program? or am i totally wrong (wouldnt be surprised)....

thats basically correct....stage 3 is if you have NOS or a power adder like forced induction...street strip and nos, for instance.

....on a similar note, my flowmaster came in today, original 40 si/so.... In about 4 hours I'm heading to the muffler shop to get it welded in and dumped. A guy is meeting me there before opening to do it so I, being extremely anxious and impatient, can get it done before i go into work....ha!

No, the stage 2 is the only chip that will work unless the rules have changed. The Stage 2 is the chip that has the 3 settings.

1st setting = stock
2nd setting = premium octane tune
3rd setting = NOS or whatever else you have tune

Here's the link with the 2 Stage and 3 Stage...kind or strange. I think I bought the 2 Stage chip, but so did Tom Longo...and he sent his chip back in for a future NOS tune...so what's the deal here?

Don't forget there is a forum here for chips and related discussions. No problem discussing it here, but don't short-change yourselves.
The answer is out there somewhere......

I'm not sure what stage I have Joe, but I do have 2 tunes and a stock setting on mine. 3 position toggle switch. (not that the nitrous tune does me good anymore). Overall, the chip has been a pain. I'd spend the extra 100 bucks and get the tuner. I'm still thinking about getting the tuner anyway cause I change my gears and tires alot and don't want to have to send my chip back for re-programming every time.

BTW, I'll give you my 4.10's if you want them. The 4.56's work awsomely with my 35's and are getting me really good around-town gas mileage.

sorry guys, all gone

Uh, on another note, i haven't been able to find a tuner for the 4.2 yet. anyone have any idea?

p.s. trucks been running really good lately. i had it up past 90mph with the 35"er's last night on the highway. Those of you who know the problem i've been having lately, that's really great news. the pinging is starting to go away now with every bottle of engine cleaner. I'm pretty sure now that it was the long term use of the colder plugs that built up carbon on my piston heads causing the detonation and poor gas mileage. i'm back up to 13mpg from 8 and i've gotten almost all of my power band back as well.

Tom

pps, homer....*** gas or grass, nothin's for free anymore baby!!!!

The SCT tuner is available and I hear that the SCT Extreme Flash software package will be released this Friday. At one time Diablo was going to release a Predator for the 4.2, but I have not heard anything recently.

I have a Predator for my Lighting and a SCT tuner for my 4.2. I will pay the $50 up charge for the SCT software when it’s released.

The Predator has the upper edge in functionality but who know when (or if) it will be available for the 4.2
