So does that mean there are no '68 Ford vans, only '67's and '69's (like the missing '83 Corvettes")? Or are '68's the old style vans?

 

1968½ Econoline... like the '64½ Mustang . My dad's is registered as a '68, and the inspection sticker shows a 1968, but title and everything else shows it as '69. I tracked it back a while ago and the body was built in late '68 at Lorain, mated to the engine in early '69... 4 months later according to the codes. Kinda odd...

 

There's no such thing as a 1964 1/2 Mustang..except to enthusiasts. There IS an early and late 1965 model~~~before and after 8/23/64. That's it.

Never heard of any 1968 1/2 Econoline.

Show me any references to either the '68 Econoline or the '64 Mustang in a Ford parts catalog or a Ford shop manual. There ain't any!

While looking around, see what you can find on a: 1957 Edsel, 1955 Mark II, 1969 Maverick, 1970 Pinto. Ford introduced some models early, calling them the next years models. GM, Chrysler...everyone else has done the same thing since 1897.

RESPECT THE VAN, I saw that on a commercial. THE VAN IS BACK, that one is on there too. I grew up with a 72 Clubwagon with no back seats. My Brother sold it to a neighbor and he drove it for 20 years, and I always wanted one.
Mine is a 74 , 200 series, Club Wagon, with 302 and auto. I bought it to fix up and use for tailgating. I would probably plan on selling it after a year and find another project.

I have a problem, it is a Great Van and my Wife loves to drive it! My 8 year old daughter thinks it is the Coolest, because she doesn't have to be careful around it or in it. It used to belong to a Fire Dept. and has lots of wear marks.
Problem: My Wife will not let me sell it. I am having fun fixing things on it and making it MINE.

It is a nice short wheelbase model and you can park it anywhere and not worry about get door dings. The interior is coming along and we will be painting it soon.

I have one!!! It's a '73 E200 and except for the poor gas mileage it is one of my all-time favorites!!!
My boys call it "the big green booger" among other things.
I hate to start off with a problem, but, I put a C6 tranny in it years ago but have never been able to find a long dipstick and tube for it. Does anyone know where I can find one?

Have had it as a work van for over 20 years. Modifications have gotten a little out of hand. Drivetrain is a 393 stroker, C6 and 3.54 gear. Engine and trans have been relocated 18" back and down 12". Front suspension has been converted to parallel leaf and straight axle. Brakes have been updated to power disc from a '86 E-300. I am also using the '86 steering box and pump for the power steering. Not sure on the weight, but it's a heavy beast. Carries all of our tools and equiment for our daily jobs.

I purchased my 1968 & 1/2 E-300 in October 2008 from the original owner. It was originally invoiced as a 1968 & 1/2. It was built in January 1968. The VIN number declares it a 1969, but the title shows it as a 1968, it's ALWAYS been insured and registered as a 1968, each and every year of its existence. Rumor has it the shipping clerk invoiced them as 1968 & 1/2s for the first few weeks. It can't be proven either way. There are variations on some items during the 1968-1968 year. This makes it more fun. Call mine a 69 if you want. I showed mine at Nationals the last 2 years as a 1968 & 1/2. Many people told me they've known people in the past with one of them too...

The "FORD TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN", a publication put out by Ford Motor Company as kind of a newsletter for it's dealership service mechanics, lists in it's 94th issue, under heading 1445 lists engine specs for engine idle speed for a 1968 ECONOLINE. This was a Ford publication. If I knew how to post it on here I would, but I can e-mail a copy of it to anyone who wants to see it. Including you, Numberdummy.

 

Yea man, I have one of each generation. 1963 pickup, 1972 window van and a 1976 panel van.

 

As far as Ford was concerned there were no 1968 vans. All vans built in the 1968 model year were VIN'ed as 1969 models as their was a strike (labor unions) and the 2nd generation vans didn't even start getting built until March of 1969. So no 2nd generation vans were built in 1968 at all. That is why your VIN number shows it as a 1969. The clerk should have titled it as a 1969 when it was new. Again, as far a Ford is concerned they did not build any vans in 1968.
