Holly Avenger Carb
#3
my friend just bought one for his 79 Bronco with a 429, removed a holley 750 mech. secondaries, he says there is no comparison. The truck starts easier, runs better, smokes less and gets better fuel mileage. He runs the truck on the road and at the sand dunes, when at the dunes the carb does not flood out due to fuel splashing out of the vent tubes while going over bumps or climbing the hils like the 750 did. He thinks it was well worth the $$$ ($450 ) and is very happy with it. -Ed

To answer both your questions, no and no. The 770 Truck Avenger was on the 428cj in my '72, which I sold not too long ago. I would have liked to run it on my '73, but the carb was much too small for the stroker. I run a full out racing Holley 950hp dbl pumper on that one. I also don't think it would be "worth" it to put one on a tow rig. Don't get me wrong, its a great carb but I think you can get the Street Avengers on sale for a bunch cheaper, which is all that you'd need. Hell, you could probably get a deal and buy Ivans off of him, his is pretty new and I think he wants to move to a TA.

Since on the subject of the Holly TA.....what size carb should I buy 670 or 770 CFM? I know Holly has there nice little equation: ((engine disp.)*(max engine RPM))/3456, but I am not positve on the max engine RPM. This is for the 460 I am building w/ an E.B. Performer intake. I only have a general idea of the max RPM, any suggestions on the max RPM is should use for this?

I have the 770 on mine and it seems to be about perfect. I had a 650 on there previously and that seemed to starve it a little (carb had all kinds of problems so it's hard to say). I can hit around 5500 RPM with my 460 and at that point I'm too scared to stay on the throttle anymore . . . call me a baby.
