Hi guys,
Allan & Linda from the NE of England, a little place called Wallsend which used to be famous for it's shipyards and coalmines (and being the end of Hadrians Wall, built 2,000 years ago by the invading Roman army) but is struggling some now with closedowns.
We've got a 97 Explorer 4.0 OHC with 76,000 miles. It needs some work and like others we're finding that getting parts is far more expensive than it needs to be. I'm working up the courage to ask my buddy's mom in Troy, Al to go to Autozone in town AGAIN and get some stuff to mail to us!
The biggest problem right now is that it needs an IAC valve but has some other "breathing" issues, mainly (I hope) because of a very badly installed LPG (propane fuel) conversion kit. It has lots of vacuum leaks, it sucks like a 2-bit... no let's not go there LOL. But it sucks air real bad. So far I've replaced upper and lower intake manifold gaskets which has improved things but we're still finding leaks all over. And to make matters worse, the LPG kit has just started acting the fool, it won't switch from gas(oline) to gas (propane) although it does attempt the switch. I think it's a bad ground connection someplace that we'll have to hunt down.
Anyway, enough of our woes we love the car.
Anybody else on this forum going to the AACUK Annual General Meeting this coming Saturday?
We were going to be in Birmingham on Sunday for business anyway so we decided to come down a day early and stay over, we'd love to meet with anybody who will be there.

Hi Alan, the world is small, you knew that, but though I live in the Netherlands, I have been rather close to your home: Ponteland, where I lived for some 15 years, and working in Sunderland.
With regards to the IAC valve, that is not in operation during the LPG mode is it?
My van is also on LPG, but refuses to run on petrol (gas). Been to the official Ford dealer responsible for the USA imports, but even though a Canadian mechanic called the factory in the States 3 times, during my presense, they have not been able to spot the problem.
Bought a code reader from Wallmart, but there are no codes that cause the non-run on petrol.
Keep on struggling.
Regards,
Cor

Have any of you overseas folks tried getting parts online, like from RockAuto:

http://www.rockauto.com/

Here's their policy on International orders:

http://www.rockauto.com/policy.html#International

Might save your friends the trip to AutoZone! And of course there are others as well. Just about all the big auto parts chains have online sites, including AutoZone, Kragan and Napa to name a few. I don't know about their International sales policies, so a little research is in order on each one. And of course there are other online-only stores, like RockAuto.

Hope this is of some help.

G'day BigF350
Thanks for the welcome
The old ute's not a bad old bus. Its currently getting the aircon' regassed in time for summer.
I am pretty sure the original purchaser of this vehicle had a few bucks as it is the XLT and had air fitted.
This is an aftermarket unit but made to fit the F100 not just a universal aircon bolted in.
When I work out how to post pic's I'll do so as it's a neat looking set up.

Mike

Thanks, TigerDan for the tip: I did not know Rockauto, the others I did.
However I did check-out the shippingcost, and this seems exessive; I entered a few electronic/emission items, which are expensive and light-weight, but $200 business costed more than that in shippingcost, which I felt does not need to be.
The good thing about their online shop is that the shippingcosts appear everytime you enter an item. Also it is a good site and one can drill-down the catalogue quite easily, with pictures for many parts.
How is the general quality? especially for the non-genuine parts ? Not for AC or Fram and such well-known makes

Cor, I've only placed one order with them but I was quite happy with the quality of the parts. It was all good stuff, some name-brands.

Good point about the shipping costs, they can really take the fun out getting an otherwise good deal.

Allan1010,
Welcome to FTE !

I was in Newcastle on June 21st 2000, sat in a pub beside the river and drank Newcastle Brown til my belly blew
The pub was on the west shore.....(Guildhall ?) ..just north of the wing bridge.

I have a cousin in West Bolton

Newcastle is one of my favourite places in Jolly Old England.
